It’s 1942 and Britain’s Channel Islands have fallen under Nazi-occupation. Louisa Gould, a mother and shopkeeper, is grieving at the news that her son has been killed in the war. After a dramatic encounter with a young Russian soldier who has escaped a local German prison camp, she decides with her sister (Amanda Abbington), brother (Ronan Keating) and the village postmaster (John Hannah), to harbour the fugitive.
However, in this distressed, small town, there’s not only the Germans to be wary of but also her fellow townspeople. The tension is mounting as it becomes clear that Churchill will not risk an assault to recapture the British soil, and the island community spirit is beginning to fray. Louisa plays a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, risking the lives of her family and friends, as well as her own, as she fights to do the right thing.
